"Mohave supports the importance of sustaining our planet by protecting the environment."

Mohave and Green Contracting, 6/22/2009

To this end, we will seek contracting solutions that lower overall energy use and increase the use of sustainable energy, reduce waste and pollution, and sustain and improve ecosystems. Such solutions will be identified as “green contracting.” Green contracting shall not be limited to construction. Mohave shall address green contracting in all applicable procurement solicitations. To determine applicability, the Contracts Team shall research green contracting as it applies to the materials, services or construction in the procurement. The results of that research will help determine whether to include green contracting in the solicitation.

Mohave supports the importance of sustaining our planet by protecting the environment. We will seek contracting solutions that lower overall energy use and increase the use of sustainable energy, reduce waste and pollution, and sustain and improve ecosystems.

The Contracts Team shall also endeavor to develop general knowledge of green contracting and apply that knowledge to Mohave’s contracting program.

The following general outline shall help guide pre-solicitation research and the competitive procurement:

  • How does environmental protection and sustainability fit into the industry?
  • What products or services in the industry support environmental protection and sustainability?
  • Are the products in standard production with a proven track record?
  • Are the services generally accepted as environmentally friendly and sustainable?
  • What testing or certification substantiates that the products or services protect the environment and improve sustainability?
  • What testing or certifications (such as LEED certification) do the products or services support?
  • Should Mohave include green contracting as a requirement or preference for the procurement?
  • How will green contracting be addressed in the procurement evaluation criteria and the evaluation of offers?
  • How do we position Mohave’s multi-term contracts to address changes in the availability of green contracting mid-term?

Mohave’s green contracting program is implemented June 22, 2009.
