| Week of April 28, 2008 | RISING PRICES: As you have seen on the news and at the pumps recently, food prices are increasing dramatically. Dairy is up almost 30 percent, grains are up almost 20 percent and fuel is at an all time high. We are the strongest position possible to receive competitive pricing for the 08/09 school year because all of our contracts are expiring and we have new solicitations in process. However, it would be unrealistic to expect that food costs will not increase significantly next school year. We will monitor our pricing to be sure it is as competitive as possible under the current economic conditions. It is very important for schools to raise the cost of a "paid" meal to ensure you cover all costs. Our proposals are due back May 8th. We should have pricing for 08/09 to all members by the end of May. VOLUME INCENTIVE DISCOUNT: Our members earned $50,733.55 in volume incentive discounts from Shamrock Foods in the third quarter! These discounts are shown as a credit on a future ASPIN invoice for Shamrock Foods delivery. ASPIN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: We are looking for candidates to run for the ASPIN Executive Committee. Serving on the committee gives you the opportunity to lead ASPIN as we continue to grow and meet the needs of our members. We typically have 4 meetings per year. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Bette. UPCOMING REQUESTS FOR PROPOSALS: All of our contracts expire at the end of this school year. We will be issuing RFP's on April 11th and they will be due back to Mohave on May 8th. We hope to have several vendors interested in our proposals. We should have contract pricing for 08/09 available for all members by the end of May. FY 07/08 COMMODITIES: The Department of Education has distributed the remainder of your 08 entitlement. ADE recommends you utilize your entitlement dollars by April. RAINBOW PRODUCE PRICES: Pricing for this week is included as an attachment to this update. SHAMROCK PRODUCE PRICES: Pricing for this week is included as an attachment to this update. PRODUCT UPDATE: A product update is included as an attachment to this update. MILK PRICING: Milk pricing for all counties from Shamrock Dairy for the month of May is included as an attachment to this update. SHAMROCK MILK AND COLD STORAGE: Milk and cold storage pricing from Shamrock Foods for the month of May is included as an attachment to this update. ASPIN INVOICES: We want to thank all of our ASPIN members for their timely payment of ASPIN invoices. This has been the best year yet! Members are doing a great job and earning the most interest possible in the ASPIN holding fund.
